Goldback Inc. has been making 24 karat gold foil notes since 2019. It's an ingenious solution to an age old problem. Gold has been used as money for thousands of years. It is well suited to be used as money and checks all of the required boxes (it's divisible, portable, acceptable, scarce, durable, and of stable value). The only problem is that in it's natural form (or even its customary bullion forms) it's just too valuable for smaller purchases and it's nearly impossible to divide tiny pieces, flakes, or coins/bars of gold accurately by weight to match the value of such purchases. How can you trade gold for everyday purchases like groceries, gas, a burger, a beer, or a haircut? One gram gold bars and coins exist but they are already quite tiny and are currently worth around $100/each. In gold rush days, a "pinch" of gold dust was used to purchase everyday items but was imprecise and fat-fingered "pinchers" were often employed by merchants as another means to extort the miners. Plain paper money has been used for generations and is much easier to exchange than physical metal. The only potential problem is since we went off the gold standard in 1971, paper money is inherently worthless (only its backing by the issuing government confers any value). As our debt continues to spiral out of control, inflation is still problematic, congress seemingly has no intention to balance our budget, and with the Fed always ready and willing to crank the money printers up for the next crisis, this potential problem becomes more real as fiat currencies continue to lose value and may someday even be altogether worthless. Another potential payment option for everyday items is silver of course, and silver coins could bridge this gap if the merchant were willing to barter. But if you wanted to use gold, appreciate the convenience of paper money, and subdividing a 1 gram gold nugget, coin or bar precisely isn't in your wheelhouse, then Goldbacks are a great solution!
The 1 Goldback notes each contain precisely 1/1000 of a troy ounce of 24k gold, the 10 Goldback notes each contain precisely 1/100th of a troy ounce of 24k gold, and the 50 Goldback notes each contain precisely 1/20th of a troy ounce of 24k gold. They also produce 5 and 25 Goldback denominations, but we've decided to just carry the 1, 10, and 50 denominations for now. These notes are fungible, so we've priced them accordingly with the 1 Goldback note priced at 1/10th the cost of the 10 Goldback note and 1/50th the cost of the 50 Goldback note, as they were intended.
Currently 5 of these United States have their own Goldback series and each of these states have hundreds of businesses that currently accept Goldbacks as payment in full. These gold foil notes are stunning with beautiful and intricate details specific to each state series and denomination. Each one is an incredible work of art in its own right, well worth collecting for that reason alone. Domestic shipping is free for all orders over $99 (but you must enter code free shipping at checkout). For orders of $99 or under, domestic shipping is $9.95. International shipping is via DHL, FedEx, or USPS international express and costs $45 for shipments up to one pound and $10 for each additional pound.
